The strut. The tease. And, of course, the reveal. In burlesque, every performer is spinning a story where the ending is well known. And yet audiences never seem to tire of the telling.
Burlesque has survived more than a century of changing social mores, yet it remains underground even in an age where erotic romances such as "Fifty Shades of Grey" are best-sellers.
Local performers say burlesque's latest resurgence has much to do with the recent fascination in the 1950s and '60s retro lifestyle, exemplified by Pinupalooza. The convention — which celebrates pin-up art and culture with panels, pageants and an all-star burlesque show — was Saturday in Orlando.
